Whenever I get my mittens on a new game, I love to test and review it on my twitter (I probably should have a blog instead of using my twitter account…). I also love it when the game fucking runs properly to start with. Welcome to Fallout 3, and I can feel whoever reads this cringing.
Not only will it refuse to work on my hyperthreaded dual core laptop but even the official launcher is that fucking broken it won’t load DLC. (for the techno illiterate, hyperthreading technically doubles the amount of cores, making the laptop a quad core) Turns out the Fallout 3 engine has issues with computers with more than 2 cores. Considering this game was released in 2008 I thought the engine would be happy to work with the computer to cut the amount of cores it detects. Yeah that went to plan, even all the fixes on the Steam forum didn’t work.
I guess this is a good time to point out it works perfectly on the big computer (proper dual core) so I have been able to play it, except the launcher, thank god for FOMM (fallout modmanager) and for the sake of my sanity I shall speak no more of the launcher. So far the HUD makes my eyes bleed in almost any colour, the irritating pipboy thingy pisses me off and the hotkeys aren’t working for some odd reason.
I guess I might come to like it a bit more once it starts working properly but right now I can’t even force myself to like it.
Also, I might move my reviews to my Tumblr. You’ve been warned. The only thing is don’t expect them to be recent up to date games, I don’t have a job and if I did I’d be saving for personal goals and Uni over every single game released.
